Michigan Trip

Joey, Kate and I flew to Michigan this past weekend to introduce Kate to her "Great Grammie", who will be 93 in December. We were a little nervous about the flight -- we weren't sure how Kate was going to handle the plane ride, but she was a pro! She fell asleep before take off on the departing flight and was a little handful on the way home -- a little restless and wanted to visit with the people in front of us and behind us! But all in all she did great! :)

On Thursday, we celebrated my mom and brothers birthdays with a family dinner and on Friday, we took Kate to Yates Cider Mill in Rochester Michigan. Matt (my brother) and I were so excited to take Joey, Kate and Matt's girlfriend Bonnie for fresh apple cider and doughnuts. I have to say when we got there we were a little disapointed -- mostly because it wasn't exactly the way we remembered it from when we were little. There were very few petting zoo animals, and we saw very little of the Cider Press, but the cider and doughnuts were still awesome and well worth the trip! We took lots of great pictures near the river and got to see lots of the fall foilage! On Saturday, Kate met her second cousin, Brady, who is two. They played together quite nicely at Grammie's.

Halloween 2007

Trick or Treat! For Halloween, Kate dressed up as "Minnie Mouse." I found her costume at the Disney store and it was picture perfect! My favorite part of her entire costume were the glittery, yellow high heels, just like the real Minnie wears in Kate's size. Surprisingly enough, she was able to walk in them. We went trick or treating in Hilary and Elliott's neighborhood, and we did manage to visit a couple of houses, but Kate seemed to get more enjoyment out of distributing the candy to the all of the kids who stopped in at Hilary's house for candy! With our help, she would go to the door, reach into the bowl and pick up a piece of candy to put in each bag. A couple of times, she would stop and look at the candy and if it was something she wanted she would hold on to it, and then close the door, saying in a long southern drawl "Byyyyyye Byyyye". I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Joey's new job with ADP

I'll admit, I'm pretty inconsistent when it comes to my blogging, but since I've loaded it up with pictures of Kate, I thought I would take a second to write a non-Kate update. Joey started a new job with Automatic Data Processing (ADP, Inc). They are the largest payroll and benefits service company, and he is selling workman's comp packages. He started the first week in August, passed his insurance licensing exam on the first try and actually left today to visit his new territory - MIAMI!! Another reason for me to visit South Beach! Yippee! :)

Kate - 13 Months (October 2007)

She is getting more teeth - finally! Her top 4 teeth are starting to really show. Her vocabulary is also expanding too - Joey and I can coach her on most one syllable words, but she says "milk", "more", "dog", "hello" or "hi"(anytime the phone rings - she likes to pick it up and put it on her shoulder and put her ear to the phone and say "hello"), and of course ma-ma and da-da.
She has also said "Auburn" twice as well - we're still working on it though. Kate still loves to read books and now sings "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" although it's mostly just 4 "Rows" and an occasional Boat at the end.

Kate - 11 Months (July 2007)

She is exactly 11 months today and we're 31 days away from Kate's first birthday! It's hard to believe that my baby is going to be one already!

Last week, we bought Kate her first pair of shoes (the shoes are white - just in case you were wondering) because she's now walking. YAY, KATE!! :) Her balance is improving each day, and she will take anywhere from 4 to 20 steps without assistance of mom and dad. She loves to walk around! She can go from sitting to standing by herself and once's she's up she's moving pretty quickly, and then stumbles, falls down, and gets back up to do it again, but she's getting the hang of it.

Her vocabulary has expanded to include "UH OH!" "DA" is still the universal sound for just about everything. I'm still working on "MA-MA", althought I'm not making much progress here. She's also laughs after she hears other people laughing. It's pretty funny!
Kate also loves to talk on the phone! She's particularly fascinated with our cell phones and will hold the phone up to her ear on her own and try to talk into it. She's also figured out how to work the speed dial on my phone so when she randomly dials, and you don't hear anything on the line, all I can say now is sorry! :)

Kate - 10 Months

As of June 27, Kate will be ten months Her hair is really starting to fill in and she has two bottom teeth, and there's a little white spot up top where a tooth is getting ready to poke through. She's still very curious. Loves Cherrios! She says mama and dada and waves bye bye! She is also learning signs for "More" and "Food". She hasn't quite mastered them yet.

A couple of days ago, she enjoyed a puppet show. At first, she wasn't sure what to make of the hand puppets (the pig and the bookworm), but towards the end she was grabbing at Ms. Debbie's hand to try and hold them.

Kate is 9 months!

Kate turned 9 months at the beginning of June. I took her on Friday, June 1st to the pediatrician for her check up and I am proud to report that she weighs 18 lbs, 9.5 oz , measured 27" in length and her head circumference was 47"! She was in the 25-50% percentile for height and weight and in the 90% percentile for her head -- she's definitely smart and full of personality!

Her two bottom teeth are in! She also says Ma, Ma and Da-da! :) She said Da-da first.

It's amazing to witness her accomplishments -- at nine months, she is very mobile. Her confidence in her balance and being able to stand without holding on to something is getting stronger each day. She's increased the time from 3 to almost 6 seconds before she realizes that she's doing it on her own and then plops to the floor.

In other news, Kate moved to the older infants classroom at Primrose. She is in a class with babies who are crawling, pulling up and starting to walk. She loves it. On her progress reports she is hardly taking any naps during the day - which is great for us because she usually conks out early and sleeps through the night!

Getting out of First Gear

Since Joey left Enterprise and started his new job with Chase Financial Staffing, we knew eventually that we would have to get a new car. So when we got the news that his office was going to be moving from Dunwoody to Gwinnet in two weeks, we had to get a jump on it. Well, I am proud to say that we are the proud new owners of a 2003 Saturn Vue. It's silver, and is very spacious, with a great size trunk for all of the baby equipment. The one minor downside is that the car is a manual, which is bad for me, because I've only ever driven an automatic.

So I had my first driving lesson in the Kohls parking lot not too far from our apartment. I didn't do as horribly as I had envisioned, but I still have a ways to go. I think it will be a while before I am road ready.

At the moment, I feel very uncoordinated. (The feeling I have is kind of like when you watch Tucker Carlson or Master P perform on Dancing with the Stars. Inside your cringing for them as you watch them stomp around the stage during the waltz. You just want the performance to end as quickly as it began). I can't seem to find the right balance of clutch/gas, clutch/ break, and then there is the whole easing off of the clutch and gently pushing the gas. There is just too much to think about while your desperately trying not to stall out in Atlanta traffic. I'll have some more lessons this weekend. I'll keep you updated on my progress.

Kate Dufour - 7 months

At 7 months old, Kate weighs 17 lbs and 2 ounces. She is actively crawling and showing signs of pulling up, so mom and dad have been very busy "Kate proofing" our home. Kate is very happy, giggly and curious; she enjoys playing with all of her toys especially her rings and blocks and she also loves to explore all of the gadgets on her exersaurcer.

A couple of weeks ago, she took her first trip to the Atlanta Zoo with mom, Grandma and Grandpa Bemister. It was a beautiful day and we saw lots of interesting animals including elephants, giraffes, alligators. We also saw the new baby panda, Mei Lan, but she was in the middle of a long nap. Kate says her favorite part of the trip was watching all of the elementary school children run from one exhibit to the next. There were so many kids it was hard to keep track of where there were all heading.

Meet Kate Dufour

Kaitlyn Elizabeth Dufour was born at Northside Hospital on August 31, 2006 at 6:37 p.m. in Atlanta, GA. At birth, Kaitlyn or "Kate" as we affectionately call her, weighed 8lbs 6 oz and measured 20.5" long. She was welcomed by family and friends who were all very anxious to meet her!
